Scars after rectal biopsies

This patient had suffered from a slight diarrhea for some months. A rigid sigmoideoscopy was performed, the finding was normal and microscopic examination of the biopsies showed normal rectal mucosa. One week later a colonoscopy was done, as the normal sigmoideoscopy finding did not explain the cause of the diarrhea. This is an endoscopic view from the rectum. Seen in these images are scars after rectal biopsies The biopsy forceps formerly - and rarely nowadays? - used in order to take biopsies during a rigid rectoscopy were quite large and taking a biopsy could cause a small lesion visible for some time.
